This Tree Looks Like It’s Covered In Warts, But The Truth Is A Lot Weirder.

It might look like this tree has a bad case of acne or warts, but the truth is a lot more interesting (and delicious).

This is a jabuticaba tree, and what you’re seeing there are its berries. Unlike other trees, jabuticaba trees grow fruit directly out of the bark on their trucks and branches.

Jabuticaba trees grow in South America in the southern regions of Brazil, near the city of Sao Paulo.

Their very unusual appearance is because their fruit grows directly out of the tree bark.

In the wild, jabuticaba trees flower about twice a year, making their berries a local delicacy.

It is also possible for farmers to induce more consistent flowering.

Some trees can also produce green berries.

During the jabuticaba flowering season, the local streets are packed with vendors selling the sweet berries.

Aside from eating the berries, you can also use them to make alcohol. Jabuticaba wines and liqueurs are common in the region.

I still can’t get over how weird these trees look.

Though the berries do actually look pretty delicious.

As if I needed another reason to finally visit Brazil. I want to try some of these jabuticaba berries. I wonder how jabuticaba wine stacks up against traditional wine?
