Adopting an animal really is like giving them a second chance at life. While many pets that end up in shelters didn’t have an easy start to life, living in a shelter is no picnic, either. Who can blame them for their sad puppy dog eyes? Some of them have been through more than we could ever begin to understand, but that doesn’t stop them from being a great potential pet. All it takes is a little love to bring them back to their happy, bouncy selves – and we’ve got the proof.
1.) Before adoption: Lacy was timid.
After: She was happy and snuggly.
2.) Before adoption: Daisy was scared of everyone.
After: She made fast friends.
3.) Before adoption: Smalls was malnourished.
After: He’s healthy and all smiles.
4.) Before adoption: Jackson was scared and shy.
After: He’s sleepy (and totally spoiled).
5.) Before adoption: Spokey was sad and lonely.
After: Smiled from ear to ear!
6.) Before adoption: Jasper was too skinny.
After: He was healthy and always excited about the dog park.
7.) Before adoption: Max had a whole slew of health problems, including mange, that made his life absolutely miserable.
After: He’s healthy and 100x happier.
8.) Before adoption: Kita felt like a prisoner behind these bars.
After: Kita’s got all the toys and free space she could ever want!
9.) Before adoption: Mr. Whiskey Party just wanted anyone to let him love them!
After: He got his wish, and he’s got the sparkle back in his beautiful brown eyes.
10.) Before adoption: Sandy was rescued from the desert.
After: She’s enormously happier to have her very own people and forever home.
11.) Before adoption: Penny Lane was timid and terrified.
After: She’s a big snuggle bug.
12.) This pup went from timid and terrified to sweet and smiley.
13.) This little pup could see the hope, but just barely.
There it is!
14.) There’s nowhere to get comfortable in this kennel.
But this dog bed in a forever home is pretty sweet.
15.) “Please take me home with you? I’ll be good, I swear!”
“Well, I didn’t say allll the time.” There’s no way we can stay mad at that face!
16.) This pup is much happier now that he’s cleaned up and loved every day by his adoptive parents.
17.) This pup had an injured leg that had gone unattended to for so long that the damage became permanent.
But with enough love, three legs is plenty!

These transformations are truly incredible. It just goes to show you how far a little bit of compassion and some basic care can go in the life of a dog. If you’ve adopted, do you remember how happy your pup was when you took him or her home with you?
