In these pre-apocalyptic times that we live in, you might be thinking about the best ways to protect you and your family in the event of a disaster, man-made or otherwise. Sadly, there’s not really an easy, catch-all answer.
That is unless, of course, you’re rich and powerful. If you have an extra million or two to spend, you have options. People will cash can choose to ride out any impending apocalypse in style in their very own luxury, underground, disaster-proof condo.
The Survival Condo Complex is buried 174 feet underground in the shell of an old missile silo. The facility has a total of 54,000 square feet, and it designed to sustain up to 70 people for at least five years.
The complex boasts both full and half-floor apartments that sell for anywhere between $1.5 and $3 million, and they’re selling like hotcakes. Buyers include entrepreneurs, doctors, and scientists, according to the developers.
Once you get a look at the amenities in this place, it’s not hard to see why the rich and power would want to wait out a disaster here. Residents have access to an indoor swimming pool, a movie theatre, a rock climbing wall, an indoor dog park, a gym, a library, and a medical center.
And of course they’re protected around the clock by military grade security.
The complex is meant for long term survival. Upon purchasing a unit, every resident receives a 5-year supply of freeze dried food.
While the complex currently runs off of electricity from the power grid, it is equipped with backup generators, and batteries.
In the event of a disaster, the complex is meant to function as a community. There is a classroom for the children and even a holding cell for unruly residents.
The company can even help you get to your condo in the event of a disaster. They plan to offer armored transport to the complex for all residents, provided they can get to within 400 miles of the complex.
Currently, the first condo complex in Kansas is completely sold out. Construction on a second complex is underway (but nearly all of the units are already sold).
The developer, Larry Hall, says that demand is high and he’s even considering building a third security condo location somewhere in Texas.
This is the interior of one of the full floor units. It looks pretty swanky. The units even include fake windows. You can display anything you want on those screens.
These “video windows,” can even give you a live camera feed from the cameras on the outside of the complex.
This seems like the perfect place to wait out the end of the world. I think I am in love with this kitchen.
I’m not sure if it’s apocalyptic paranoia or the fact that that’s literally the most beautiful kitchen I’ve ever seen, but I really want to get one of those apartments. Do you think that’d let me work out a payment plan? To learn more about the Survival Condo Project visit their website.
