When breaking into a house to steal something isn’t the stupidest thing you’ve done that day, you can bet that it’s not going to be a good one. Take Nicholas Wig, a 26-year-old Minnesota man, for example, whose stupidity has him facing up to ten years in prison and $20,000 worth of fines if convicted.

When James Wood returned to his South St. Paul, Minnesota home, he instantly knew something was wrong.
There was a window broken and the entire place was ransacked.
Cash, credit cards, and a watch had been taken from Wood’s home. He also found that whoever took his stuff had left some of their own belongings behind. Namely, jeans, a belt, and a pair of sneakers.
Wood also noticed a strange Facebook page, that of Nicholas Wig, occupying his computer screen. Realizing that this must be the burglar’s account, the homeowner shared a photo of Wig and asked anyone with more information to call him.
Later that evening, Wood received a text from the preeminent Nicholas Wig scholar, Wig himself. Wood replied saying that Wig had left some things at his house.
The two agreed on a time for Wig to come back and pick up his stuff. When Wood saw the thief approaching, he called the police.
Wig was wearing Wood’s watch when the cops arrested him.

Wood referred to Wig as the “world’s dumbest criminal,” which is a statement I’d have a tough time disagreeing with. Until someone takes a selfie of themselves committing a crime and sends it to the authorities, at least.
