Every November, the spider crabs of Port Phillip Bay in Victoria, Australia, take a trip that will make your best family vacations look like a trip to the supermarket. Dr. Julian Finn captured this massive migration in his video series, Underwater Backyard. If you ever wanted to see hundreds, if not thousands of spider crabs molt at the same time, then this is the video series for you.
It’s really amazing to see these crabs, who typically spend their time in the deeper parts of the ocean, come to the shallows. The numbers alone are impressive, but the order in which they migrate really makes you wonder how they can coordinate such a move.

I haven’t seen this many crabs since I got banned from that all-you-can-eat seafood buffet. Though I don’t think these crabs would take kindly to that…
