Earlier this month, an unnamed man ran into his local animal hospital and began pleading with the doctor to fix his pet. He said he would do anything to get him back, even pay the $460 for the necessary surgery.That might not seem like much for pet surgery, but the man’s pet was a goldfish.
The doctor said she had performed the operation on bigger, more valuable fish before, such as a carp, but never a fish that you could just win at a carnival. This was a first for her.
The issue with the fish was that it couldn’t effectively expel it’s own waste. AKA it was severely constipated.

This was to be no easy procedure. Everything had to be prepared just right. First the fish was dropped into a bowl with a carefully measured proportion of anesthetic.

Anesthetic water was then fed into the mouth of the fish, and while sedated the doctor removed “lumps” lodged in it’s backside.

An hour (and almost $500) later the goldfish had made a full recovery. His cuts were sewed up and held together with a special glue.

Goldfish can usually live up to 10 years if they don’t get sick. This tiny fella is just a little less than 3-years-old. Here’s hoping you’ll live to the big 10, little guy!
