Nursing is an incredibly noble profession, one that comes with numerous responsibilities to both your patients and their families. This responsibility only makes what Italian nurse Daniela Poggiali is accused of doing all the more heinous.
Poggiali was arrested and charged with killing up to 38 of her patients, all of whom she found “annoying.” If that wasn’t enough to make your skin crawl, Poggiali is also accused of forcing her colleague to take a picture of her with the body of a dead patient.
This is 42-year-old Daniela Poggiali. She was arrested in October 2014 under suspicion of poisoning a 78-year-old patient. The patient, Rosa Calderoni, allegedly died of potassium chloride poisoning.
While searching her home, police discovered a picture of Poggiali taken with the body of a deceased patient. Not long after that, police decided to widen their investigation to include other suspicious deaths (up to 38) that occurred on Poggiali’s watch.
Here is Poggiali allegedly posing with the dead body. One of her work colleagues is said to have taken the picture. Those who worked with Poggiali said she was a “cold, polished” person. Many had long suspected her of misconduct. Some also believed that Poggiali would frequently sedate patients if she found them burdensome during her shifts.

Poggiali’s lawyer maintains that the patient in the picture with her is not deceased. However, the police investigation into Poggiali’s other nefarious activities with her patients is ongoing.
