I’ve had real nightmares about what a man in India just experienced. He had been complaining about a strange itch in his ear. Finally, he decided to go to the doctor to get it checked out. Everyone was horrified to discover what caused the itching. No, it wasn’t an infection or anything like that. It was something much worse.
Warning: These images are pretty horrifying.
It turns out a massive cricket made its way into the man’s ear canal. This is the stuff of nightmares.
Doctors at the South Zone ENT Research Centre in Villupuram, Tamil Nadu, India, used tweezers to pull the cricket out of the man’s ear. Oh, and they caught it all in tape.
Here’s the full video of the cricket extraction.

Luckily, the doctors were able to remove the two inch cricket from the man’s ears without harming him. According to an expert on invertebrate biology, crickets in warm countries like India hide during the day to emerge at night. It’s likely the cricket crawled into the man’s ear while he was sleeping and waited there to hide until nightfall.
That still doesn’t make it any better. Now I have to be afraid of crickets in addition to spiders and scorpions. And my ears won’t stop itching!
