Single dad Greg Wickherst didn’t know anything about styling hair. As an adult, his hair fashion style was always “low-maintenance,” and involved nothing but a pass with a buzzer to keep it shorn. When Greg’s 3-year-old daughter, Izzy, wanted her hair put into a ponytail, he was at a loss. “Hair is definitely not my thing,” he told the Huffington Post in an interview.
Izzy spends most of her time with Greg after Greg and Izzy’s mom split up some time ago. He knew that as she grew, she might wish she had someone who knew about styling hair in her life, so Greg stepped up to the challenge. Greg happens to work at Colorado’s IntelliTec College, which has a cosmetology department. He simply asked some students there to help him out. Why not go to the pros, right?
Soon, the man who couldn’t manage a ponytail was able to braid, French braid, and fishtail braid. He also learned some simple tricks to keep Izzy’s hairdos stylish and fresh, like inverted ponytails, where the ponytail is flipped through itself to create a rolled look.

Today, Greg is confident in his hairstyling capabilities and posts his creations on Facebook. Izzy enjoys her hairstyles, too, and both of them enjoy the special bond they can now share. Izzy will soon learn to do her own hair, so for the time being, Greg is enjoying every minute of being her personal stylist.
