Organizations exist in most cities to help the homeless by serving them food, giving basic medical needs, and providing a temporary shelter. However, when it comes to ways for the homeless to wash their belongings, there aren’t many options out there to let them do so for free.
That’s what got Australian friends Nicholas Marchesi and Lucas Patchett thinking about a mobile laundry service in their home city of Brisbane. They wanted to give the homeless an easy way to wash their clothes. The pair quickly found a solution to this issue.

Lucas and Nic say they hope to achieve three things: “Restore respect, raise health standards, and reduce strain on resources.” Inside their van there are two large washers and dryers, allowing them to get 45 pounds of washing done every hour. They funded the van as co-founders and bought a portable generator, while sponsors provided the machines.
Head to Orange Sky Laundry for more information about their project. I only hope the same goodwill spreads to other cities.
