This Man’s Love For His Cats Inspired Some Serious Remodeling

“I just love trails and paths–and cats, of course, and so I’ve just linked those passions together.”

So says Greg Kruger of St. James, Minnesota, who has outfitted his home with dozens of tiny staircases, secret passages, and hideouts for his cats. There are over 100 yards of cat-only walkways running along the walls just under the ceiling, and Kruger gets to watch his cats play all day. The hideouts tucked into the walls even feature padding and lighting for safety. Kruger considers his cats to be his family, and wants to provide them with the best.

It looks like a completely normal house on the street, but inside…

Kruger and one of his cats peer through a hand-carved passageway inside the walls of Kruger’s house.

Kruger has been remodeling his home to make it more cat-friendly for 15 years, and describes it as a puzzle he never quite finishes, and he thinks about it all the time. Kruger attributes his intense focus to having Asperger Syndrome, a form of autism. He was officially diagnosed at the age of 49. “I’m probably not the best at socializing,” he says, but he chooses to see his condition as a blessing that helps him complete his project.

For now, Kruger’s project is ongoing, and he and his cats are enjoying every minute of it.
