Sorry, guys. The Perfect Proposal bar has just been raised by the most rugged nerd out there. He combined an outdoor adventure with some nerdy craftsmanship to create a Zelda-themed proposal that goes so far beyond making a fun reference to something the couple enjoys.
Not only did the soon-to-be groom build his ring from scratch, he made the box out of a tree his future wife cut down. To top it off, this was all done before he went down into a cave to pop the question to her. (Yeah, this proposal was that intense.)
The future fiancée.
Chopping down the tree that would soon become the box holding her engagement ring. If only she had known it then!
The tree from before looking quite different thanks to the groom-to-be’s incredible woodworking talent.
That’s a lot of work for one little box.
And it looks like that work only just began. Creating the lid took some trial and error (and lots of wood filler).
So far, so good.
What a beautiful wood stain color.
Because a box is much too simple, LED lights and a speaker were added. The Zelda open chest music now plays when you open the box.
It’s easy to see why he was so proud of his work.
The chest was rigged with lights and the famous music featured in the Zelda game series.
Of course it’s not THAT easy. An even tinier box needs to be made.
Oh, and a ring.
How could anyone forget that? To get the gem he wanted, he had to buy a pair of Alexandrite earrings.
And remove the stones.
Then, he put the Alexandrite into an entire new (gorgeous) setting.
The happy couple entering the cave.
The even happier and way more engaged couple exiting the cave, post-Zelda proposal.

Congratulations to the future Mr. and Mrs. Epically Nerdy And Also Somehow Rugged Proposal. +1 to you both.
