Many of us have fond memories of doing projects with our parents. Maybe it was simple like raking the leaves up in the backyard or wrapping Christmas presents. Or, perhaps it was a little more complicated; for instance, remodeling a room or working on a car. At the end of one of these projects, it’s satisfying to see everything come together, to see the results of a team effort. But the best part about one of these projects is becoming closer to your parents by working together.
Six years ago, a father and son in England decided they were going to embark on the most epic father-son project I’ve ever seen. These two committed themselves to taking on the task of building something awesome, and gigantic.
John Couzens and his 26-year-old son, Dan embarked on an epic project – they wanted to build their very own yacht…from scratch!
A backyard yacht isn’t something you start building on a whim – this took tons of planning and preparation. The father and son duo originally thought the project would take just two or three years.
Once it was completed, the Couzens realized that the boat was so big that it would be quite a task to get the boat out of the backyard. They had to take a little bit of a financial hit to rent a huge crane to lift the boat on to a truck to be transported to the harbor.

This is a really impressive project, and turned out incredibly well. With multiple bedrooms, the family plans on taking the yacht out on the water for fishing trips and vacations.
Maybe I’ll see if my family would want to do something like this. But, maybe not a yacht – I think a rowboat would be more our speed.
