It seems like emotional Christmas advertisements are the big thing in the U.K. right now. Department store John Lewis recently released their Penguin ad last week. And to help kick off their Christmas, British supermarket chain Sainsbury’s released a powerful ad that will surely evoke the spirit of the season.
Made in partnership with The Royal British Legion, the ad commemorates the extraordinary events taking place during the First World War. On Christmas Day in 1914, guns fell silent, and British and German soldiers stepped out of the trenches. The soldiers met in no-man’s land, sharing gifts and even kicked a ball around. This event would later be known as the Christmas truce.

This is a wonderfully made advertisement. Though you could argue about the idea of “romanticizing” war, this was still shown from an intriguing angle. Regardless, it sure is a special way to celebrate the coming holiday.
