What happens when one bird of prey comes too close to another bird’s nest? An epic sky-battle, that’s what. Lives depend on this war of honor and property. Photographer Marina Scarr caught this fight between two feathered creatures near Sarasota, Florida.
When the owl spotted the hungry hawk looking for prey a bit too close to her nest, the barred owl locked eyes with the sharp-beaked foe and took action.
It may look like the hawk has the upper-hand in this battle…
But the owl, in a valiant effort to keep her nest safe and sound, scared the hawk off to hunt elsewhere, after ripping some of its feathers out with its talons.
“Take that, hawk! That’s what you get for scoping out my home as a source of food. Not. Today.”
Scarr reported that neither bird seemed to be severely injured, just a few feather’s poorer, at the end of the fight. This just goes to show you the lengths that even an owl will go to to protect her kin and her home. We’re not the only ones to risk our own health for the greater good.
