These Suitcases Found In Asylums Are A Glimpse Into A Shocking Life

They say a picture contains a thousand words. Well, these photographs of suitcases that were found in New York’s long-abandoned Willard Asylum for the Insane are proof of that…and then some. Each one of these shots tells a compelling and often devastating story.

The exterior of a suitcase left in what was the Willard Asylum for the Insane.

The mental hospital was located in Willard, New York.

In 1975, it was added to the National Registry of Historic Places.

The structure, left abandoned for decades, was built in 1869.

While the building was left to decay, some of the things inside of it, like these suitcases, remained intact.

Not much is known about the pieces or their contents, but they still manage to tell such incredible stories.

Looking at these is like being transported to a different time.

Luckily, we’ve been able to come such a long since these times–both in regards to technology and mental health.

An interesting arrangement of things.

What an amazing collection.

Talk about haunting images. It’s amazing how, after all these years, the briefcases and their contents could remain in such good shape. What interesting stories these pieces tell.
