A mouse in your house is hard enough to catch, but what if that mouse was invisible? This could be a reality sooner than you think if scientists in Japan have their say. Researchers at the RIKEN Quantitative Biology Center at Osaka University found a way to turn mice almost completely invisible.
Scientists first experimented using various mice organs. They used a fluid that makes brains transparent for imaging. Here you see mice kidneys, livers, and pancreata in various states of transparency as the color is removed from them.
To achieve transparency for a full mouse body, researchers removed the blood from a dead mouse with saline and repeated the same technique used on the individual organs.
While it might look freaky, researchers are adamant that these clear mice bodies could help with research into preventing and treating diseases that affect humans.

Thankfully for us, this technique only works on dead mice. But who knows? Maybe one day we’ll have to worry about a plague of almost invisible mice terrorizing out homes. That won’t be a fun day.
