These Paintings Are Beautiful, But You Won’t Believe How They’re Being Made.

When Mariam Pare was 20 years-old, her life changed forever. A stray bullet struck Pare between her back and her shoulder blades. She lost the use of her arms and legs that night, and has been paralyzed ever since.

At the time of the shooting Pare was an up and coming painter. During rehab for her injuries Pare realized that she could still paint. She just had to do so while holding the brush in her mouth. Since then, she hasn’t let her disability get in the way of her art career.

After a freak accident left her paralyzed, Mariam Pare continued to paint this time using her mouth instead of her hands.

This is how she describes what happened:
“Somebody was shooting a gun and it hit the car I was driving. I was struck in my back between my shoulder blades and my neck and I was instantly paralyzed,” she said.

Pare realized during rehab that she could still paint, after she signed her signature using her mouth.

The quality of her work is amazing. I would never have guessed it was painted by mouth.

For the most part Pare paints portraits and still-lifes. She also loves painting pictures of Santa.

“I really love Santa,” she said. “He’s a very jolly subject.”

That coffee looks good enough to drink.

Funnily enough Pare says she’s better at painting now with her mouth than she was with her hands.

However she doesn’t want to be labeled as a “disabled artist.” She’d prefer that people enjoy her art because it’s good, not because it was painted by mouth instead of by hand.

So inspirational. Life dealt Pare a bad hand, but she persevered and has accomplished so much. Make sure to pay her website a visit and check out some of her other work.
