These Hikers Came Across Beautifully Clear Ice On A Frozen Lake In The Mountains

A lake in the High Tatras Mountains of Slovania has water that’s so clear, it barely looks like it’s there at all when frozen. Typically, the lake has a rather murky quality. Since it froze at such a fast rate, the imperfections in the water crystallized, making it look completely see-through.

When these hikers came across the completely frozen lake, they probably thought they were hallucinating. Watching them walk across the lake almost seems like gawking at people while they’re strolling through the middle of the sky.

It looks like any other frozen lake from far away. When you take a closer look, you’ll see that it’s very different.

Now that’s something you don’t see every day.

Watch one of the hikers walk across the lake below.

As cool as this looks, I’m not sure I’d do the same if I came across a similar lake. Falling into freezing water is falling into freezing water, no matter how transparent the ice is.
