Artist Samantha Keely Smith paints gorgeous landscapes using her unique abstract perspective. According to Smith’s website, the New York-based artist is “striving to reconcile the inner world of instinct and emotions with an external world that is both beautiful and hostile in its natural grandeur.” She goes on to explain how she uses the artwork as an investigation of our human impulses that are both necessary and contradictory to our life.
The process for each painting involves layers of translucent paint, contrasting brushstrokes and even partially destroying the works as she builds the layers. The ethereal result is breathtaking and mind-bending at the same time.
