Back in October, an abandoned litter of seven pups was found in a dumpster outside of a Radio Shack in Susanville, California. They each weighed in at just about one pound each; their umbilical chords were still attached and their eyes still closed. Heartbreaking.
The Pet Network Humane Society in Incline Village, Nevada took the puppies in once they were rescued from the dumpster.
Bacall, Gabe, Chief, Michonne, Bindi, Bogey, and Piper are the names given to these seven sweet pups.
Here is one pup while on the road to recovery, under 24 hour care.
The pups were dangerously close to death, and looked more like tiny hamsters, with hardly any fur, when they were first found.
The pups were cared for by attentive foster parents while their condition improved. Fosters were tasked with helpful motherly duties like rubbing the pup’s bellies and feeding at all hours of the day and night.

One mother, Kaelan Wolford, was so certain that one of the pups belonged in her home that she called up the shelter and said, “Just because you have a lot of families in line doesn’t mean they’re the best family. We’re the best family.” That little speech won her the honor of taking home one of the boys, Chief. She said that it was a lesson for her children on the good and bad people that are out there in the world.
Just one more happy ending this holiday season – this brood of pups definitely deserves a second chance after they were dealt a bad hand at the start.
