A dog owner’s worst nightmare became a reality when Jon Broadwell’s pup, Cody, ran away from home. The English setter escaped while he was being watched by a friend. Broadwell was starting a new job that required him to be away from home. The distraught owner did his best to find the dog – including posting on Craigslist – with little success.
Cody was found by the Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue group and was adopted out to a new family. However, when the family saw Broadwell’s post Online about his lost pooch they returned the dog to the Rescue group with the expectation that his original owner would be able to reclaim him.
The volunteer handling Cody’s case at SPDR placed Cody in foster care upon his second arrival, where the caretaker reported some aggression. Taking matters into her own hands, the volunteer (who has since been terminated) made the unauthorized decision to euthanize the dog, instead of working with Broadwell to get the pup back home where he belonged.
Watch the tragic story for yourself.

I can’t imagine the anger, sadness, and frustration that Broadwell must be feeling. The actions of the unnamed volunteer are truly inexcusable, and I can only hope that nothing like this ever happens again.
