Photographer Jason McGroarty decided to distill the personality of a city, sometimes several cities, in a simple way–at least conceptually. He decided to “float” images of the cities onto images of a beverage that best represents that city’s culture. The images are comprised of a shot of the beverage, which is set against a themed backdrop, and then the skyline, or at least the important parts of it, are worked in digitally. The result is a singular portrait of the complexity of a whole city.
The series, titled A Place to Go, Please, features the landmarks from one city, or sometimes a few nearby cities. The most iconic landmarks, such as the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower and Big Ben, seem to rise from the surface of the liquid in the glass, and overhead, small weather patterns take form.
