One of the main attractions of video games is that you can do what you want in the game and not get hurt in real life. This is something that a new product called Blood Sport wants to change.
The device, (which is raising money on Kickstarter) connects to your video game console of choice and actually draws blood from the player every time they receive damage in the game.
By drawing blood, the creators mean actually drawing blood, like you’re at a blood drive.
The creators developed a way to modify the rumble packs on video game controllers to detect when a player receives damage. When this happens, a signal is routed through a circuit board to a blood collection machine.
The circuit board keeps track of how much blood needs to be collected. It then activates the blood collection machine every time the player receives any damage.
Once the specified amount is collected, the board shuts off. There will always be a medical professional present to monitor the system, just in case.
Taran Chadha and Jamie Umpherson, the brains behind Blood Sport, explain that people will be so distracted playing the game that they won’t even notice the blood loss. They envision a future where the Blood Sport system is an alternative to the traditional blood drive.
The Blood Sport system as they’ve devised it works with nearly every video game system on the market today.

While I’m not a big fan of needles, I could certainly see the appeal of donating blood this way. You can learn more about Blood Sport on their Kickstarter page. Sadly, it looks like that Kickstarter has suspended their campaign, at least for the time being.
