Firefighters in Lake County, Florida, made a new friend this past Saturday when they rescued a German Shepherd from a 20-foot-deep well that had been left open by the landowner. The pup is in good health and was reunited with his family. Though he was missing for 12 hours, authorities are unsure how long the little guy was trapped down there. One thing was clear though…he was so grateful when firefighters came to the rescue.
It might seem like a simple rescue, but due to the age and the depth of the well, the firefighters had to test the air quality to ensure it was safe for them to breathe.
It’s understandable why the pup was so frightened!
Once nothing hazardous was detected, they climbed down the hole on a ladder.
The pup was understandably psyched to get out of the dark well. Other than being a little frazzled, he seemed to be in good heath.
He even offered up his belly for belly rubs from one of the firefighters.

While this pup is no Lassie, and found himself on the opposite end of the well-rescue situation than his fictional puppy counterpart, he’s still adorable. We’re glad he’s alright, thanks to the Lake County Firefighters. No life is too small to warrant a daring rescue.
