This weekend marked the 45th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. In honor of that giant leap for mankind, here are some photos of the landing and the brave men who executed it. I like this batch because it’s really personal, almost like the Apollo 11 guys had Instagram.
Blast-off! Apollo 11 took off on July 16, 1969 at 9:32am and entereted orbit 12 minutes later.
Buzz is like, “Space is great and all, but I can’t wait to go back home and be a weird and eccentric guy for the rest of my life.”
On July 19, 1969 Apollo 11 entered the moon’s atmosphere. This would be the perfect time to fart and then claim “Hmm that must be what moon atmosphere smells like.”
Apollo 11 landed on the moon’s surface July 20th, 1969. I think this is the moon, but it could also be a picture of my face when I was in the 9th grade…
I almost thought this was a picture from the movie Apollo 13 because Buzz looks so much like Tom Hanks here. Also: are they drunk?
Not sure if this is THE small step for a man, but its A small step for a man.
Buzz capturing proof of the dark moon man that has been following him ever since they landed.
No yeah, they’re definitely drunk. That’s definitely a ‘pass the joint, man’ kinda face.
Here is a photo of Eagle’s ascent phase. They blasted Thin Lizzy’s “Boys are Back In Town” and rocketed home.
If you love space and those great American party animals who pioneered it as much as we do, give this a share on Facebook.
