Budi the baby orangutan had a tough life before International Animal Rescue in Indonesia came to his aid. For the first year of his life, little Budi was kept in horrid conditions. He lived in a chicken cage and was fed nothing but condensed milk, which was slowly killing him.
After his rescue and upon arrival at IAR’s orangutan rescue center, Budi’s extremely critical condition became apparent when the poor little guy cried out in pain every time a vet moved him. His body was too frail, and he suffered from severe malnutrition.
In this video filmed shortly after his rescue, veterinarian Karmele feeds Budi from a bottle and veterinarian Jaclyn weighs the sick baby ape.

According to IAR, they have a team of experts working around the clock to monitor and treat Budi. The vets say he has a very long way to go on the road to recovery, but they have high hopes that the little guy will make it.
