Nope, this story’s headline is not the set up for one of your uncle’s “hilarious” jokes. This actually happened in the Israeli coastal town of Herzliya. Commuters were recently shocked to see the big bird joining them for their drive along the highway.
The emu was most likely an escapee from a nearby private farm, but that didn’t make the sight any less weird for those hitting the road on a Sunday afternoon. Artist Iliya Zelser was among those who saw the bird making his way down the road on a rainy day and said it “felt like being in a cartoon.” Luckily, he was also able to capture the strange event on video.

After managing to steer the bird to a shopping center’s lawn nearby, authorities arrived to return him safely to his owner. We imagine he’s probably bragging about it to all his emu buddies right now.
