When most people think of lab animals, they don’t often think of dogs. Sadly though, animal testing on dogs in the United States is a common practice. Companies regularly test a variety of products on dogs including pharmaceuticals, household products, and cosmetics. The most popular breed of dog for testing are beagles.
This is because of their “friendly, trusting, forgiving, people-pleasing personalities.” The Beagle Freedom Project is an organization that works to place former lab beagles with permanent homes when the labs no longer want them. Most of these dogs have spent their entire lives in a cage, and are very standoffish around people.
Back in May, the Beagle Freedom Project rescued nine beagles from a testing facility in Nevada. They filmed the rescue and the dogs’ first taste of freedom. If this video doesn’t bring a tear to your eye, then you might not have a heart.

It should also be noted that all these rescues are done with the full permission and cooperation of the labs. That doesn’t make it any less heartwarming though. Share this amazing video by clicking below.
