It’s 2015. Where are our hover boards and sneakers with power laces? If you don’t understand the reference, it’s from Back to the Future: Part II, the 1989 sequel to the hit movie Back to the Future. The Michael J. Fox film took place in a fictionalized 2015, complete with these inventions and more. It didn’t explicitly promise any of the incredible inventions, but it did imply that we’d have all of these technologies by now.
With that in mind, I have good news and bad news: while hover boards have yet to be perfected, we will have sneakers with self-tying “power” laces, according to Nike’s innovation chief, Tinker Hatfield.
That’s right! We will have Marty McFly’s sneakers with power laces in 2015. That’s this year! The future is now.
If you have any doubts over whether or not we have the technology for power laces, check out this video of someone who made their own self-tying pair of sneakers.

I can’t wait to get a pair of these. Let’s just hope we didn’t have to start saving our money back in 1989 just to afford them.
