A very chilly labrador was rescued from icy Michigan waters earlier this week when a Coast Guard officer spotted the pup run and fall into a frigid lake. Luckily, the dog went under where safety wasn’t far off – a Coast Guard station was just next door.
Boatswain mate third class Tim Putnam swam over 650 feet into the lake, pushing his way through icy slush and past big blocks of ice.
Putnam says that the dog was shivering, but still managed to make her way towards him with the little fire she had left in her.

If no one comes forward within a week, Putnam and his wife are thinking of adopting the dog into their own family. The labrador wasn’t microchipped and didn’t have any tags that lead to an owner. Says Putnam, “Maybe it was meant to be.”
No matter what, this dog dubbed Betsie, after the lake she was saved from, is very lucky that Putnam and his Coast Guard team was there to save her in the nick of time.
