A Son Made His Dad An Awesome Upright Chess Board From Scratch

Chess is one of the most popular and oldest games in the world, dating all the way back to the year 280 in Eastern India. Throughout time, people have created many ways to play the game, from the classic board game version, to playing against others across the planet Online.

This man put a fun twist on the classic chess board, flipping it upright and hanging it on the wall. Not only did he create a fun new way to play the game, he also built a gorgeous DIY piece of wall art. Check out his project below.

Here’s the finished product. Let’s check out the process.

First, he tried to match the store-bought chess pieces to the wood colors he would use.

He glued together the pieces of wood in rows.

Here’s the finished board. Since it wasn’t completely symmetrical, he glued it evenly to the back of the cabinet.

He then built a drawer for the chess pieces.

By gluing a piece of wood into the middle of the drawer, the different colors of chess pieces remained separate.

Here’s the assembled board. All that was left were the shelves and a little bit of stain.

Here’s the stained product.

Once the shelves were installed, he gave it to his father as a gift.
