Sometimes, New Zealand is just left out. And it has to stop.
A website called worldmapswithout.nz collects maps from all different sources that, for some or no reason, leave New Zealand out. This is a rather strange and unexplained phenomenon, and one that is unfair to our friends in NZ. (Sorry, Kiwis!)
After seeing how often poor New Zealand is left out, I started to empathize. This inspired me to write this a little poem dedicated to New Zealand and to its rightful spot on the map of the world.
New Zealand was searching for its place on a map. / But it was left out of so many. What’s up with that?
All it wanted was its rightful place / Right next to Australia with its own private space.
But on so many maps, its place it couldn’t find. / New Zealand thought it had lost it spot on the globe, and its mind!
But it kept on searching for its spot on the earth. / It knew that it was special and what it was worth.
New Zealand looked high and low only to see / A blank space exactly where it should be.
But just as it thought the search was in vain, / New Zealand found itself – in its place, with its name.

I made sure that this story ended happily for good ol’ New Zealand.
