Most people would have no idea what to do with a slab of salvaged bowling alley wood, but Redditor GabooTCB turned one alley’s trash into a treasure for his home. With a lot of work, a little investment, and some creativity, he turned the neglected remnants into a kitchen island, complete with a gas stove top. The result is a gorgeous and practical addition to his home. Check out how he made it below…you’ll be in awe of his craftsman skills.
He found the neglected bowling alley slab in rough shape.
This is what the bottom of the slab looked like.
He started by removing damaged pieces of wood from the ends.
He removed old lags from the wood.
Then, he removed the screws under the lags. During the whole process, he was sure to take every precaution as the slab was filled with rusted old metal.
Using another piece of bowling alley wood, he extended the width of the table top.
He also added additional boards of new wood.
The table was difficult to sand, so he used a router sled to assist him. It holds the sander in place and slides down the surface.
Though the slab was strong in width, its long shape made it quite flexible. For extra support, he added new metal stiffeners to the bottom.
He installed iron legs and finished the surface with stain and gloss.
Finally, he installed a stove to the surface, putting the plumbing for the gas and electric through the iron pipe legs.
