Building an instrument is a detailed art form. It takes a knowledgeable and skilled craftsman to build a quality instrument, and the smallest mishap can make it sound bad or render it completely useless. Because instruments are so difficult to make, they can cost quite a bit of cash. But even the best-made products get old.
Quality guitars can cost thousands of dollars…but what can you do with a damaged, irreparable one? Instead of letting it sit around collecting dust, or throwing it away, turn an old guitar body into a one of a kind piece of home decor. Check out how to make a guitar body shelving unit below!
First, remove the strings from the guitar by loosening the tuning machine.
Next, you’ll need to remove the face from the guitar. Use a hand saw to cut it off, just make sure to keep the guitar steady with clamps.
Once you’ve started sawing away the face, you may be able to remove the rest easily using a chisel.
Once the face is removed, measure the depth and width of the guitar for your shelves.
Each shelf will be a different size, depending on where you place them inside the body.
Use sandpaper to sand the rough edges out.
Glue your shelves into the body with wood glue. Now you’re ready to customize it to your liking.

This project is so simple and the finished product looks great! I don’t have a broken guitar hanging around, but I bet I could find one at a thrift or antique store.
