This hurricane season is a fairly quiet one so far, and we’ll keep our fingers crossed that it stays that way. That said, it’s always a good idea to prepare for the worst.

In preparation for future storms, we present to you a list of the 15 most destructive hurricanes ever recorded. It’s worth noting that 10 out of the 15 storms listed took place during the last decade. This could signify some brutal storms still to come this year.

3.) 1989 – Hurricane Hugo. 56 deaths and $8.5 billion worth of damage.

4.) 2001 – Tropical Storm Allison. 50 deaths and $9.0 billion worth of damage.

5.) 1998 – Hurricane Georges. 604 deaths and $9.72 billion worth of damage.

6.) 2004 – Hurricane Frances. 49 deaths and $9.85 billion worth of damage.

7.) 2005 – Hurricane Rite. 62 deaths and $12 billion worth of damage.

8.) 2004 – Hurricane Charlie. 40 deaths and $15.1 billion worth of damage.

9.) 2011 – Hurricane Irene. 56 deaths and $16.6 billion worth of damage.

10.) 2004 – Hurricane Ivan. 124 deaths and $23.3 billion worth of damage.

11.) 1992 – Hurricane Andrew. 65 deaths and $26.5 billion worth of damage.
