After Becoming A Doctor, One Woman Writes To Her Very First Boss. Incredible.

Do you remember your first job? I do. When working the late night shift at the local grocery store, I couldn’t have asked for a worse boss. He didn’t care about my exams or my homework, and didn’t care about my future after high school. What I could have used was a boss interested in helping me become the person I wanted to be. I needed a boss who knew I wouldn’t work there forever, and that studying with no customers around was more beneficial than scrubbing the counters again.

A boss just like this one.

Nabiha Islam once worked at a Dairy Queen in Markham, Ontario, under owner Yvonne Lavasidis. She’s since left to become a doctor. In a true act of kindness, she recently wrote a thank you letter for the support she received while working for her former boss.

“Well, I’m a doctor now! It’s taken me a long time, I know, to come back around to Dairy Queen but I have thought of you and your kindnesses often,” Islam wrote in the note. “You are an incredible boss and an even better human being. Thank you for supporting and encouraging me, for BBQing halal chicken for me, and allowing me to study for my MCATs in the back when no customers were around.”

Yvonne, who received the letter last Monday, said that she was moved by Islam’s words.

“Obviously I was so very touched. I was in tears when I read the note for the first time, and every time I read it, it still brings tears to my eyes,” she said.

Lavasidis also said, “I remember her as a very intelligent and hardworking individual. She was wonderful with our customers and a joy to work with… [and] her success is very well-deserved.”

I only wish that I felt the same way about my former boss. Either way, this shows you that for every success you have, there’s likely someone in the background lending a helping hand. Taking the time then to thank them can mean the world to them, and it costs you nothing.
