You’ll Have to Look Hard to Find This Street Art, But It Is Worth It.

“Oak Oak is a young man from Saint-Etienne (France) who loves to take a walk in the city. But unlike any ordinary tourist looking for historical building and the most daring architectures, Oak Oak seeks insignificant details. A small crack on a wall? That is precisely what he will be drawn to! Instead of seeing a defect in construction, he would rather see a web spun by Spider-Man. A post has been knocked over? Instead of blaming whoever failed to put it back in place, he would rather make up a story to explain why it is down. Therefore, Oak Oak is an unusual lateral thinker in an urban environment. Welcome to his world…”

So begins Oak Oak’s new book, Oak Oak Urban Diversion, an autobiography not only in writing, but in its images, too. There are over 100 pictures of Oak Oak’s street art in this volume, now available through Omake Books and on Amazon. Below are a few images from the book.

Oak Oak’s pieces are typically fairly small and are inspired by the urban landscape around him. As he explains in the books intro, cracks, building features and other little quirks that most people pass by without a second glance become the stages for his playful, often small and unobtrusive scenes. Many of them draw on pop culture references and feature scenes and characters from movies, cartoons, and famous art.

If you find yourself in France, you might want to be on the lookout for Oak Oak’s pieces, as they’re sure to make you smile. If you can’t get there, you can check out the book instead. It’s cheaper than plane tickets, after all.
