Whether or not you actually played with dolls as a kid, you’re going to be blown away by the life-sized dollhouse artist Heather Benning was able to create. (And let’s face it, even those who try to act like they were too busy tossing the football around to play with a doll…probably did at some point.) Using an old farm house in Sinclair, Manitoba, Canada, Benning built something that was worthy of traveling miles just to catch a glimpse of. For some, it was a dream home. For others, a waking nightmare. In the end, it would become a nightmare for all, but that’s not to say it didn’t have a nice run.

For six years, The Dollhouse stood as a life-sized version of what so many kids spent their childhoods playing with.

But all good things must come to an end.

Especially when that good thing is a safety hazard.

You know something is unsafe when burning it down is a safer alternative to letting it stand.

Seeing something you worked so hard on go up in literal flames might be tough to imagine, but Benning always knew that The Dollhouse would only remain as long as it was safe. In a way, it was probably cool to see her art catch fire like that. No spectacle has ever been created by a pencil’s eraser.
