When you’re doing something you’ve planned for the longest time, do you think about anything else while achieving your goal? Probably not. You’re blind to the world around you. Nothing will stop you from your goal.
That’s what I used to think. When Scottish Cyclist Ishbel Taromsari came across a stray dog about to die during the middle of her mission, she didn’t just take notice. She took action.
In the middle of a world bike tour, Ishbel was trekking through Turkey when she noticed a stray dog attacked by pack of dogs.

Since the dog would surely die, she pounced to the rescue. But her work was not done.

The dog Ishbel affectionately named “Lucy” needed a home to survive, and she went to Facebook to find her a new home. Within 7 hours, over 65,000 people responded.

Ishbel rode with Lucy for four days, and eventually brought her to Jeannie Thirkill, a Scottish local known in the Turkish town as “the mother of cats.”

From there, Jeannie will ensure Lucy is adopted by one of her worldwide sponsors. This is all thanks to the bravery of one Scottish cyclist interrupting her mission.

It’s not the biggest missions in our lives that we’ll be remembered for. It’s the simple acts of kindness and going beyond what’s expected that will immortalize us.
