You know that dream you once had about opening a cute bed and breakfast in the country? Well, it might be time to dust that one off…or at least indulge in it a little more before you get back to reality.
The Opinicon Resort is located on the shores of the Rideau Canal in Ontario, near Chaffey’s Lock. It began its life in the 19th century as the Chaffey family home. By the 1890s, it was a boarding house. It then became a men’s fishing club in the early 1900s. Since then, it was established as a well-known resort in eastern Ontario, and was owned and operated by the same family since 1921. It has a main hotel, as well as 15 cottages on the 16 acres of land. It also has a store and plenty of access to Opinicon Lake.
It’s also for sale. A hotel resort being on sale isn’t anything exciting in itself. However, the pictures of the Opinicon Resort might make that B&B dream come back with a vengeance. This lovely little place was kept up to maintain a quaint, almost magical appearance.
The entire thing is for sale at only $500,000; we’re not sure if that’s USD or Canadian, though. It’s being sold by the current owners, Karen Cross and her sister, Cindy Simpson. The sisters ran it with their mother, who passed away in 2012. The hotel, with its pastel colors and vintage flair, is adorable, and we hope that the new owners keep the spirit of the place.
