How many people are there in the world with your full name? Probably a fair few, right? Well, for Seth Cohen, that’s the question that inspired one of the most unique quests of all time.
After being mistaken for another Seth Cohen on Facebook, Cohen started to wonder how many people out there had his name. Some quick Internet research found over 300 in the United States alone. He decided to embark on a quest to meet them all.
Since November, Cohen has been able to meet 10 other people who share his name. The first Seth Cohen was in his hometown of Bedford, Massachusetts.
Seth wrote about each of the encounters on his blog. So far, none of the other Seth Cohens he’s met are directly related to him. However, Cohen admits there might be some distant family ties…
“According to tradition, all Cohens (including all the various spellings) are direct descendants of Aaron, brother of Moses, the first High Priest of the Temple of Jerusalem. So, in very basic terms, there is a chance I am relatively closely related to any given Seth Cohen. This is not the main thrust of my project, just a fun side note,” said Cohen on his blog.
The experience meeting these people with the same name was a very enriching one, said Cohen. And it helped him to understand people better.
“I make assumptions about the Seth Cohens before we meet based on their Facebook profile or their work history on Linkedin,” he said. “I put them in boxes and assume they’re going to be this way or that way based on age or work, and each time they are not at all what I expected them to be.”
Just a bunch of Seth Cohens all hanging out.
This is one of the coolest and wackiest projects I’ve ever seen. Still, I wish Seth Cohen good luck on his quest. To keep up with Seth’s adventures, make sure to follow The Seth Cohen Project on Facebook.
