Authorities confiscated two Chow Chow puppies from a traveling Italian Circus when they responded to reports of tourists forking over cash to take photos with what they thought were endangered wild animals. While Riccardo Gravina, secretary for the Orfei Big Top Circus, insisted that the circus had never claimed that the dogs were pandas, though it all sounds pretty fishy. The pups’ ears and other panda-like patches were tinted black, and while the dogs seemed to be in healthy condition upon confiscation, it’s certainly not right to paint a dog, as it can be harmful to the pooch.
The circus claims that no animals were mistreated, and that it’s “obvious” they are dogs.

The Chow Chow pups were taken away from the circus. According to their pet passports, they were illegally imported from Hungary with falsified documentation stating that they were much older than they indeed are.

Though the circus claims that they saw their Chow Chows as pets, it’s no life for a pup to live as an impostor. The dogs have been returned to their owners, under the condition that they are no longer used as impostor pandas. Hopefully the rest of their days are filled with only dog-type activities.
