Koalas Suffering From Australian Brushfire Need Your Help Making Mittens

Residents in Southern Australia and Victoria have spent the last week fleeing their homes as a brushfire takes its toll on the surrounding areas. Unable to flee, however, were the local animals who are falling victim to the flames.

This koala, named Jeremy, is the first to suffer from burns because of the fast approaching fires.

Jeremy is currently being treated for burns on his hands and feet by four wildlife agencies in the area.

Despite his painful condition, representatives for the Australian Marine Wildlife Research And Rescue Organization say the little guy was in great spirits when they brought him in.

Second degree burns cover each of his paws.

The organization is asking for donations, especially from anyone with the ability to sew.

They need help creating enough koala-sized mittens to help what they unfortunately predict will be many more victims of the fire.

Here’s Jeremy, recovering with his saviors.

Because of how popular Jeremy’s story was becoming, AMWRRO recently posted a video on their Facebook page updating fans on his steady recovery. Even if you can’t sew, you can still provide assistance through donations. You should also share his story to get the word out!
