The Mimi Foundation, a Belgium-based charity, told 20 cancer patients they would give them unique makeovers. When they all arrived at a studio, they were asked to keep their eyes closed during the makeover to make the reveal more exciting. The patients expected that, when they opened their eyes, they would look beautiful — but they got something else entirely. Cameras captured their beautiful, albeit shocked responses.

The idea behind this was that the 20 participants’ discovery of how silly they looked allowed them to forget their illness, if only for a moment.
The photographs seen in the film were turned into a 60 page book by Vincent Dixon titled If Only For A Second. Each photo is followed by a caption, the date and the time the photo was taken, and most importantly, the exact second when the person forgot about their disease.
