For most people, a wedding ring serves as an important symbol of a person’s commitment to their partner. For those who wear rings and value what they stand for, when they get damaged or lost, it can be an emotionally draining experience.
That’s why craftsmen like this Redditor are so important. A man came to him after dropping a wedding ring into a garbage disposal. The ring was severely damaged, almost to the point of no return. Luckily, this guy was able to save the ring – check out the incredible before and after photos below!
Here’s the poor ring that went through the garbage disposal.
To begin the ring rehabilitation, he used a hammer and a metal cylinder to reshape it.
With the correct amount of force and precision, this step went relatively smoothly and the ring was back in its correct shape.
Next, he used a file to begin to correct the gashes in the ring caused by the blades of the garbage disposal. The file also helped to reshape the outer edge of the ring.
At this point it was looking much better than when he started, but he wasn’t finished yet.
For any of the deeper gashes in the ring, he refilled them with 14k gold so the ring would be strong and retain its shape.
Despite how strong diamonds are, the two center stones cracked in the disposal. They had to be removed and replaced.
Next, a diamond felt lap was used to polish and restore the ring’s crisp edges.
The restored wedding ring looks just like new!
