This Cat Literally Clawed Its Way Out Of The Grave After Being Buried

They say that cats are luckier than dogs. Usually (being a dog person) I’d disagree with that statement. However, after hearing the story of Bart the cat, I may have to change my mind.

Last week, Bart the cat was hit by a car and left for dead in his hometown of Tampa Bay, Florida. Bart’s owner, Ellis Huston, found Bart in a pool of his own blood by the side of the road. Vets pronounced Bart dead, and Huston buried him.

However, much to Huston’s surprise, about five days later he found Bart outside his house looking for dinner. It turns out that Bart wasn’t exactly dead when they put him in the ground. The cat must have woken up while underground, clawed his way to the surface, and remained hidden for a few days.

Now, Bart actually looks like a member of the living dead. According to Hutson, Bart suffered head trauma, a broken jaw, and a ruined eye. While still very much alive, Bart needs surgery before rescuers can be sure he can survive.

In the meantime, Bart is staying at with the Tampa Bay Humane Society where he is being treated for his injuries.

That is one lucky cat. I’d like to think that if that happened to my dog she would be as lucky as Bart, but probably not if I’m being honest. Get well soon Bart!
