A Zoo In Japan Developed The Best (And Cutest) Animal Exhibit You’ll Ever See

Otters are not just known for being the adorable swimming creatures we love, but also for their curious, playful nature. To really show people how playful they can be, the Keikyu Aburatsubo Marine Park in Japan constructed a clever habitat for their otters. Both humans and otters seem to love it.

The habitat consists of two tanks: one that’s completely water, and one that includes both water and a dry land section full of toys and climbing areas. The tanks, both made of glass, connect by way of tubes and a circular piece. The otters can zip from tank to tank, and their active, curious personalities make them naturals at navigating the whole thing.

The otters use the tube system to swim back and forth. The open section atop the circle allows for some breathing room.

This is super fun when you’re an otter–although some humans might enjoy it, too.

The otters have free swimming range inside the tank.

On the right side, the tank provides a shady shelter as well as a “dry land” section, where the otters can lounge, sleep, and play.

It also includes a slide!

The best part about this habitat is that the otters are allowed to be active and explore, which makes them happy. So happy, in fact, that they even enjoy interacting with human visitors on the other side of the glass!

High five! An otter plays with a handler.
