12 Strange Locations Around The World Are The Sites Of Countless Disappearances

Biologist, writer, and cryptozoologist, Ivan Sanderson, wrote an article in 1972 called “The Twelve Devil’s Graveyards Around the World” that was published in Saga magazine. In it, he details 12 geographic sites around the world called the “Vile Vortices” known for mysterious disappearances over the years.

Whether these disappearances are paranormal, scientific, or mere happenstance will always be up for debate, but you can’t deny that they did happen. Some experts even believe that large-scale disappearances, like Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, could be a result of these vortices.

The 12 Vile Vortices.

Chosen specifically by Sanderson himself, these 12 sites are the locations of disappearances and paranormal goings on. The interesting thing is that they equidistant from each other and are equally divided between the Tropic of Capricorn and the Tropic of Cancer. With the North and South Poles also included as vortices, the design takes a icosahedron shape upon the Earth.

Mohenjo-daro.

In the middle of the Indus River Valley near what is now Sindh Pakistan there was a thriving civilization that lasted for 700 years between the 26th and 19th centuries BC. It’s name was Mohenjo-daro and it was considered one of the most advanced cities of its time.

Bermuda Triangle.

Probably the most well known of the vortices. Also known as the Devil’s Triangle, this patch of sea is famous for its many alleged disappearances. There have been many paranormal explanations for these happenings, including UFO’s (like in Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind) and possibly leftover technology from the lost city of Atlantis.

Hamakulia Volcano.

Located southeast of Hawaii, this underwater volcano has been the sight of several disappearances of ships and planes.

Algerian Megaliths.

These mysterious ancient ruins are located just south of Timbuktu.

Devil’s Sea.

Known by some as Dragon’s Triangle, this area has been said to have lost 5 vessels Japanese military vessels between the years of 1952-1954. When they sent a ship of scientists to research the area, that vessel disappeared as well.

The North Pole.

No surprise that disappearances happen here, what with it being cold and dark and at the top of the world. Paranormal encounters include Santa Clause and Frosty the Snowman.

Zimbabwe Megaliths.

It was said these lost civilizations were so great, that nineteenth century Europeans could not bring themselves to admit that they were built by Africans, and believed that they must have been western influenced.

Easter Island.

Home of the mysterious moai statues, this Polynesian island has been plagued by all sorts of awful degradation, including cannibalism and enslavement. Then there’s the prevailing theory that aliens put those statues there.

South Atlantic Anomaly

The bizarre thing about this area is that it is the point in which the Earth’s inner radiation belt comes the closest to the surface, causing it to interfere with observations from the Hubble Space Telescope and the International Space Station.

New Hebrides Trench.

oma

This trench is one of the deepest spots in the ocean, possibly full of ancient secrets and creatures still yet undiscovered.

Wharton Basin.

One of the most recent disappearances in here was possibly the Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 from earlier this year. Signals from the aircraft’s black box were traced here back in April.

The South Pole.

Again no surprise that many disappearances happen here since it is Antarctica. The fact that the sun can disappear for whole stretches of the year is paranormal enough.

Even if the theory behind these anomalies and hot-spots seems insane, you can’t deny that multiple disappearances did occur within these zones. It’d just be interesting to know the reason why.
