Ruby Holt got an early birthday present just a few weeks shy of her 101st birthday. For the first time in her long life, she took a trip to the beach and dipped her toes into the ocean.
Ruby spent most of her 100 years on a farm in rural Tennessee, picking cotton and raising four children (three of whom she outlived). Thanks to her assisted living center and a group granting wishes to the elderly, her wish of feeling the soft ocean breeze finally came true.

For her beach trip, Ruby was lent a motorized wheelchair specially adapted for use on sand. With the support of care workers, she was able to stand and dip her toes in the water, and what a beautiful moment it was.
